The Psychofessy | Chapter XI

Chapter XI: “The rise of the dusk”

Van tremendously confused turned around and rushed outside the warehouse’s darkness to find a sunny normal autumn day outside. He looked instantly around until he saw Lyn. Lyn saw him back and both rushed unto each other.

Lyn:
I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to…

Van:
What are you talking about?

Lyn:
I opened my eyes when you ran behind Courtney, I think I caused a lot of trouble between you two.

Van:
…That’s ok… don’t worry about that…

Lyn:
But I do, I mean how would you feel if you found that Courtney spent the whole night with another guy…

Van:
Let’s just get you home…

Sly:
So, we meet again, and this time you won’t be so lucky… (Still with his white outfit but without the brown rope and with two dressed alike persons aside).

Van:
Lyn, stay behind me…

Sly:
This time I will annihilate you (Taking his gun out and pointing it to Van).

Lyn:
Van who are these people? (Grabbing Van by the shoulders in fear).

Sly:
Let me introduce ourselves, young lady. We are the servants of god, the children of light; our only purpose is to protect this world from shadow beings like your boyfriend here, especially from him…

Van:
What are you talking about?

Sly:
You will remember as soon as I’ve send you back to hell where you belong!

One shot, one shot that shocked the whole area. One shot destined to end Van’s life and with it the horrors of his future visions. Surprised, he was, when he saw that Lyn had protected him by receiving the bullet. Slowly the body of the girl felt down to the ground, still holding whatever she could of Van.

Van:
Lyn! Lyn! (In tears and taking her by his arms).

Lyn:
Are…you….ok?

Van:
Why Lyn? Why?

Lyn:
Because… (cough) I… couldn’t let you… (cough again) die…

And with the bullet received on her heart, she couldn’t hold on much longer, losing the brightness of her eyes, ending her yet short life. Van hold her crying desperately, Sly shocked by the sacrifice the girl had made, and with red anger on Van’s eyes he knew it was time to flee.

Van:
No Lyn, no…not like this…

Sly:
Your luck will run out one day, until then, enjoy your life… (Withdrawing from that place).

Van:
Please Lyn, say something, wake up…

Van, silently crying just stood up, with Lyn’s body in arms, started walking. It seemed like an eternity to walk only a block and a half to reach Miranda’s house. A speechless Van, with no explanation on his lips and still numbed, he knock the door three times.

Miranda:
Who is it?…

Van:
…Van, Van Lamark…

Miranda:
Oh! It’s you, did you found Lyn?… (Opening the door slowly).

Van:
I…

Miranda:
(Seeing Lyn’s body on Van’s arms all splattered in blood) Lyn! Lindus!!! Lindus!!! Van!
What happened?!!!

Van:
I…I’m so sorry Miranda…

Miranda:
Noooooo!!! Lyn, nooo!!! (Crying).

Miranda hit the floor shocked and in tears, Van who was also crying took Lyn’s body slowly and carefully laid it down in one of the sofas, still crying, holding Lyn and on his knees he remembered that this was exactly the vision he had before, turning to the sofa in front of were Lyn’s body was, he could even see his own self there as in that day.

At that point, where Van was at the edge of madness and Miranda simply couldn’t move, Max was walking downstairs.

Max:
Miranda, what’s all the commotion, I need to get going to work (Seeing Lyn’s body as he reached downstairs)…Miranda, what happened? Lyn? Lyn?!!!

Van:
(Seeing Lyn’s cold body, still crying and almost whispering) I…I just couldn’t prevent it…

Max:
You!!!… You did this to my sister!!! (Grabbing Van by his clothing with both sadness and anger) What did you do to her?!!… (Slamming Van against the wall).

Van:
I…

Max:
Answer me!!! (Slamming Van against the wall again).

Van:
They…shot her…

Max:
Who shot her?!!! (Agitating Van, with grudge eating Max alive) Who the fuck shot my sister?!!! Answer me, mother fucker!!! (Throwing Van over a bar like table and Van rolling all the way to the kitchen).

When Van got up he saw Sly, coming toward him, as if Sly wanted to tackle Van. Rapidly and without thinking, Van turned his head around seeing a kitchen knife, and stabbing Sly’s abdomen. Then, silence capture the moment as Sly’s body felt slowly to the floor. Van dropped to his knees now with his eyes colored red and tears of hate on them, he took the knife strongly and cut Sly’s throat. Surprised, he was once more, when he heard Miranda shout “Van, nooooo!!!”. And as he looked at the body falling, he realized Sly’s body, was in fact Max’s. Van had killed Max.

Shaking in fear, he dropped the knife to the floor and with great confusion, ran outside and left Miranda on the floor crying in.
