Chapter X: “The
glasses hit the floor Part II”
Alex:
(Phone
rings) Yeah, hello?…
Courtney:
Alex
is that you?…
Alex:
Yeah…What’s
up Court?
Courtney:
Hey,
have you seen Van?
Alex:
No,
not since yesterday, why?
Courtney:
Well
I just called his mom this morning and she told me he wasn’t there.
Alex:
Courtney
is eight in the morning, I’m sure he’s already on his way to your place.
Courtney:
That
is the strangest thing, he always calls me before coming over and we were gonna
go out this morning.
Alex:
…Huh…That
is weird…
Courtney:
Yeah…
so thanks anyway…
Alex:
Sure…
Alex hung up and
with a mysterious look in his eyes he stood suspicious. Courtney on the other
hand, tried to think where his boyfriend could be.
Ms.
Robins:
Honey,
what happen?
Courtney:
Well
it seems as though Van is nowhere to be found.
Ms.
Robins:
That
boy, always disappearing so mysteriously.
Courtney:
Unless…
Ms.
Robins:
Yeah?…
Courtney:
I
think I know where he might be, see you… (Quickly grabbing her coat and
leaving).
Ms.
Robins:
Be
careful!
Courtney ran to
the only place she knew Van liked to be, the one place he liked ‘cause in there
he could think without anybody interrupting him, a place where he relaxed away
from problems.
Miranda:
Van!
Van! What happened? (With desperation on her face).
Van:
I…I’m
so sorry Miranda…
Miranda:
Noooooo!!!
Lyn, nooo!!! (Crying).
Van, covered in
blood, carrying Lyn on his arms. Miranda instantly hit the floor drowned in
tears almost at a fetal position. Van couldn’t resist shedding tears as well.
He quickly opened his eyes and woke up, seeing Lyn at his side, it was all a
dream, and they actually stood there the entire night and fell asleep.
Scare to have
had the same vision about Lyn twice and sweating cold, seeing silently but with
an agitated breath the peaceful dream of Lyn.
Van:
I
won’t let this happen to you… I won’t… (Close to her, reaching down to her
ear).
In that moment,
Van lowered his sight and almost by instinct as if he felt it he turned his
head toward his left shoulder and there she was, his girlfriend Courtney with
sadness and confusion in her eyes, crying a few tears as if she knew she just
lost the person she loved the most.
Van:
Courtney…
I … this…
Courtney didn’t
say a word; she just turned back and ran.
Van:
Courtney!!...
Wait! Let me explain…
He stood up and
ran after her but, it was no use, Courtney somehow was nowhere in sight.
Desperately, Van, ran through the streets but couldn’t find her, until, he saw
her looking at him just outside an old warehouse.
Van:
Courtney!!!...Courtney!!!
(He shouted).
But she only
turned around and walked inside the warehouse, where Van, quickly rushed behind
her. Obscurity ruled the warehouse’s interior, colder by each second.
Voice:
It
is freighting isn’t it?
Van:
What?
Who are you? What have you done to Courtney?!
Voice:
It
is most confusing at the beginning, that’s why it makes you tremble in fear…
Van:
Answer
me!!!
Voice:
Courtney
is safe, she is not here, in fact, she’s on her way home…
That’s when at
the back of the darkness of the warehouse, Van, could see who he was talking
to. It was the same strange being he saw the night he meet Lyn, although he
couldn’t see him entirely because the shadows covered most of the body, some
rays of light made him visible enough to know that he was there. His eyes red,
his hands with long dark nails and somehow he seemed to have wings, dark wings
that grew from his back.
Van:
Who
or what the hell are you?
Voice:
Some
call me an angel from darkness; some call me a demon…
Van:
Am
I hallucinating again? Is this another one of those weird visions?
Demon:
I’m
afraid am pretty real.
Van:
How
can I know you are telling the truth, that Courtney is really safe?
Demon:
You
can’t, unless you choose to.
Van:
What
do you want?...
Demon:
Glad
you asked, I just want to tell you some things.
Van:
What
things? (Confused but yet curious).
Demon:
Well,
first of all, about your so called weird visions.
Van:
What
about them?
Demon:
Van,
not all people are the same, you see, different people have different
abilities…
Van:
And
you think these visions are abilities? I’m sorry but you haven’t seen what I
have and let me tell you it ain’t pretty, ability you say? Sounds more like a
curse…
Demon:
It’s
never easy, our destiny, but at least you have the opportunity to see what’s
coming and change that.
Van:
Oh!
It won’t happen; I can assure you that, I won’t let it happen.
Demon:
So
naïve, you still are, but be careful. From now on things will change constantly
and rapidly. Be careful of who you meet and in who you can really trust.
Van:
Why
are you doing this?
Demon:
Dark
times approach my friend, and soon you will discover that you are in the middle
of a war…
Van:
For
all I know you can just be another piece of my mind, another illusion…
Demon:
From
now on you have to be more careful Van, now that you are visible to them…
Van:
Who
are them???…
Lyn:
Van???...
(Not from a long distance just outside).
Van turned his
head back and then towards the demon again but, there was no one there now.
Only the warehouse’s obscurity made him company.
