Chapter VI:
“Against the wall Part III”
Lance and
Courtney were walking right outside the school, as Lance was going to take
Courtney home in his car so they both got in.
Lance:
Doesn’t
your boyfriend mind this at all?
Courtney:
What
do you mean?
Lance:
Well…
doesn’t he get jealous, of you taking off with another guy?
Courtney:
Actually
that was the reason why I accepted your invitation, I mean, don’t take me
wrong, but, he thinks that you are hiding something…
Lance:
Huh…
interesting.
Courtney:
Excuse
me but, why is it interesting?
Lance:
Never
mind is just a matter of figured speech…
Courtney:
Are
you?
Lance:
Excuse
me?…
Courtney:
Are
you really hiding something?
Lance:
We
all hide something no matter how honest we are.
Courtney:
That…
that it is true, every time I think I know Van completely, another secret is revealed.
Lance:
Sounds
like you two might be having problems.
Courtney:
It’s
been tough lately, we’ve been doubting if we were meant to be… plus, his father
seems not to like me and has always rejected me, so both of them have been
arguing and I really don’t want that, I mean, I prefer for Van to be in good
terms with his family cause you never know, maybe we’ll split one of this days
but his family will always be his family.
Lance:
Sounds
like you really love him a lot and I bet he loves you equally.
Courtney:
I
would die for him…
Lance:
I
got a pretty wild idea, why don’t you tell me where Van lives, I think we begun
on the wrong foot. Maybe if I talk to him we could start over.
Courtney:
If
you think that can work out, then I guess so…
Lance:
Just
don’t tell Van ok, I mean, I want to surprise him.
Courtney:
I’m
beginning to understand why Van acted like that; you are kind of a suspicious
person.
Lance:
(Laughing)
I guess I am.
Courtney:
Yes…by
the way my house is just around the corner (While writing something on a piece
of paper).
The car slowly
stopped and Courtney got off, giving Lance the paper with Van’s house address
on it. Courtney then saw something in the back of the car that captured her
attention completely, what appeared to be a sword, but, it couldn’t be totally
sure since it was covered by some sort of fabric.
Courtney:
Is
that a sword?
Lance:
Huh…yeah
(quickly covering it with the fabric).
Courtney:
Why
are you hiding it?
Lance:
It’s,
it’s just some old sword I’m gonna sell.
Courtney:
Ok…
then, guess I’ll see you…
Lance:
Hey…
Do you mind if I come back in case I need some help with some of the subjects?
I’ve been out of school for a while I might need to rust off a little bit…
Courtney:
Sure,
why not…
Lance:
Great,
thanks, then see you…
Courtney:
Yeah,
bye…
As Lance's car
faded away, Courtney ran to her house puzzled by such mysterious Lance.
That afternoon
Courtney spent all her time thinking of Van, trying to reach him by phone but
the answer was always the same, Van wasn’t home. She didn’t understand if Van
really wasn’t home or he didn’t really wanted to talk to her so that hollowed
doubt was eating her alive.
Ms.
Robins:
What’s
wrong darling, seems like you are worried…
Courtney:
It’s
just that…
Ms.
Robins:
Yes?...
Courtney:
Mom;
did you and Dad fought a lot when the two of you were a couple, before you got
married…?
Ms.
Robins:
Oh!
Now I get it, this is about another fight with Van, isn’t it?
Courtney:
I
don’t know what the hell am I doing, we fight over the most stupid things… (Lowering
her sight slowly at the last words).
Ms.
Robins:
Courtney,
baby, it’s completely normal that you two fight constantly over nothing. You
obviously care much for each other and ironically that’s why you two fight… and
yes, your father and I used to fight alot even after we got married.
Courtney:
I
miss dad…
Ms.
Robins:
I
know baby, so do I, but after he passed away I learned that death will never
stop you from continuing loving the one you love…(Saying it while both mother
and daughter hugged each other at Courtney’s Room by the bed).
